THE LOGIC OF THE HOLOCAUST: WHY THE NAZIS KILLED Hitler's Ideology
DR. RICHARD KOENIGSBERG
Generously co-sponsored by Helen Stollar, in memory of her beloved husband,Jack Stollar.
We study and remember the holocaust because we believe that by increasing awareness of the events and horrors of the past, this chapter of history ''will never be repeated''. However, what precisely do we hope to learn? What ''lessons'' might we expect to take away from this horrendous event? Dr. Richard Koenigsberg has focused his research on the ideology and minds of the perpetrators. His presentation will explore the logic of the Holocaust - the meaning of those ideas and ideologies that were the source of genocide.
It will help us understand the minds and motives of those who perpetrated the Holocaust and become aware of the forces that lead societies toward destruction and self-destruction.
Dr. Koenigsberg is a psychologist who seeks to uncover the ''hidden narratives'' that lie beneath the surface of culture and historical process. He has pioneered a method for studying the ideas of political leaders through analysis of the images and metaphors in their writings and speeches. His book, ''Hitler's Ideology'', changed the direction of research on Nazism and the Holocaust.
